Opinel knives.

The number ten (one on the right) was given to me by K.
forty odd years ago. Sharp as a razor, carbon steel. Lovely.
Pruner is fairly new and stainless steel and does not hold its edge so well.
Brilliant knives. The no. ten
cost 75 p. from Guildfords Habitat shop.

You know, I never owned a Opinel blade... I have several Case xx folders that have served me well. But I have been carrying for couple of years what is called a Higo knife. It is the quintessential Japanese folder. For what I understand they are made by select blacksmith following hundreds of years of traditional bladesmithing. They are traditionally carried by men from a very young age ( used to sharpen pencils, etc) but are sturdy little blades. Look them up, I would recommend them to anyone looking for a simple yet durable blade. They look like miniature swords that fold into their hilts...

They do look good. Expensive though.

I'm dropping lots of hints about having a French Laguiole (Layol) pocket knife for my 78th. birthday!
The cost , around 100 Euros, might be shared between the family!
